Reimagining this dark one-bedroom period property into a light and spacious, three-bed, two bathroom family home.

Overview

London has a lot to offer when it comes to converted period properties — beautiful brickwork, light-giving windows, high ceilings, and spacious rooms are all to be expected. Brondesbury Villas is no exception. When we first saw this one bedroom property, we knew it had huge potential. Not only was it in a prime location for gastropubs, independent eateries, and London living, but it also had scope to extend to make the perfect family home.

Challenge

As is often the case with period properties, there was more to be done than just building an extension. Not only did we unearth structural issues, askew ceilings, and unstable floor joists, but the entire property needed to be re-designed to allow for natural light to flow through the rooms. There was ample space for an extension. However, large trees in the garden meant a need for 2-metre deep foundation, a necessary but labour-intensive task.

Work

Our experience as RUE Extensions meant we had a fantastic opportunity to develop this property into something remarkable. We added two additional bedrooms, a bathroom, and thoughtfully designed the layout so natural light flooded the apartment. As well as making the property structurally sound and fire safe by replacing floor joists, straightening walls, dropping ceilings, and supporting the rear, we also made the property functional and beautiful. We added two additional bedrooms and a bathroom, a fully insulated room under the main stairs, a new boiler and water cylinder, and — finally — decorated to a high standard throughout.

Results

We transformed this dark and confined one-bedroom flat into a light and spacious three bed in a popular area of central London. From the clean lines to the large rooms, our design, extension, and build services have created a unique renovation that will make an ideal London home for any family to enjoy.
